One among us by Paige Dearth: a book review by Deepika Tulsyan
One among
us: I usually read the blurb of any novel and then I decide whether I have to
read the book or not. So initially I was really not into this book because of
the blurb I thought of skipping it but because of my friend’s suggestion I took
this book and I really can’t say you how grateful I am that I decided to read
this book. This book is filled with anger, fear, tears, misery, mercy and what
not.
Maggie was
eleven years old when she was abducted and was put into the indescribably
horrific sex trafficking. In captivity Maggie’s life turns into a nightmare
most people couldn’t imagine. She took care of people around her as well she
tried her best to cope with things. She always knew one day things will get
over. Years after her abduction a strange man approaches her and she risks
everything to break free this horrific life.
This is an unforgettable story of courage and survival. It’s a reminder for the people to open their blindfold and understand that horrible things can happen to anyone it’s how people deal with their casualty.
This book is not an easy one to read not for weak heart. The content of this book is so real but at the same time scary. The main highlight of this book is the description Dearth has described each and every thing in such a depth that at one point I thought of leaving the book but somehow I managed to continue reading it. This book is intense but worth reading. I won’t suggest this book to beginner because of its heavy content. Must read
Bruises on
the skin faded,
but bruises
on the heart and mind
left scares
that took a lot longer to heal.
