They wish they were us by
Jessica Godman: A book review by Deepika Tulsyan
they
wish they were us, the debut young adult murder mystery by cosmopolitan editor,
Jessica godman. A perfect mix for the fan of series like gossip girl and pretty
little liars. This novel is for those who love preppy kids behaving badly,
crimes, mystery.
At gold
cost, things are not simple and if one wants to be the part of “The players”
they have to pay the price for it. Jill (protagonist) has everything going for
her she is now the part of “The players” she’s got an adorable boyfriend.
Everything was going great until she got a text claiming graham is not the
murderer. You see, her best friend was murdered years ago by her boyfriend
(Graham). And he’s claiming innocence
The rest
of the book is Jill’s trying to get to the bottom of this crime. Her character
in this novel is raw and real, righteous, fearless, and outgoing which stands
out her. It was refreshing to see a teen girl stand up for what is right
through she faced a lot of resistance from her family and her fellow members of
players
Spending
some time in Jill’s shoes throughout the book, seeing her POV, her inner
thoughts kept me in a fast- paced page- flipping; the murder, the dark drama of
the player and hunt for the truth.
Jessica
godman drove this book to its utmost potential; with the alternating chapters
from past and present and her fast pace of writing. If anyone is ever in a book
slump or want to start reading, this
book is the one to pick up. Godman will take readers on a trip that showed me
how deeply relationships can impact a person through feeling of anger, loss,
fear, rage and more importantly the power. This novel will give the chills when
the truth will get unfold.
“Look around. Look at everyone else”
Shaila whispered into the huddle.
“They wish they were us”.
